Making Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

Yesterday was the "anniversary" of spending 9 months together as a married couple with my husband. We had been postponing celebrating anything up until now due to our hectic schedules this year. We are first year PhD students and have a lot on our plates including taking courses and being a full time research or teaching assistant.

So, we decided to do something special and went grocery shopping. We bought lots of strawberries and they were only $3.50  for two packs from Giant Eagle. Giant Eagle usually has very good quality fruits and vegetables but I think they were trying to get rid off the left over strawberries so when we came home we realized that a couple of them had gone bad and we threw about 4-5 strawberries away. Anyway, we were not letting anything destroy our mood. We were tired due to a long day but we got to work. First, we washed the strawberries thoroughly to get rid off any mud. Then we waited for them to dry since I read that the strawberries had to be very dry before they were dipped into chocolate. While waiting, my husband played Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. We were both obsessed with this game when it first got out so we had completed the game before and we started playing again after watching a couple of episodes of The Borgias (which is a new TV show based on the Borgia family). The game had these Borgia towers that you could take over and we were now connecting history with the game and it got us interested in the game once more.

After the waiting period was over we went ahead and melted the semi-sweet chocolate in a pot and then put in some skim milk to soften the texture of the chocolate. Then we got to work and dipped all of the 33-35 strawberries in chocolate and put them on a cookie sheet. It seemed like an easy job at first but you have to be patient. Also the chocolate started getting hard so I guess our first try was not a big success visually but it was very tasty. I put some pictures of our laborious work :)
